::: Recovering Addict :::

I was introduced to a substance
in the darkest place I knew
I would break out in cold sweats
craving nothing else but you.

There was once a time when
I couldn't care less about family or friends
I'd have them worrying all night
while I went on my weekend binge.

At the very mention of its name,
I'm reminded of the pain
I spent the better part of my life hooked
on something stronger than cocaine.

My addiction was like a rubber check
trying hard to keep from bouncing
but I kicked the habit cold turkey
I have 9 months clean... and counting.

Started to change my number
just in case you tried to call
because your voice used to make me relapse
now, it would have no affect at all.

I struggled to find myself again
I didn't want to be Nobody's Bad Habit
I have the write to remain silent
I am a recovering addict.
