Four steps closer to the moon
than yesterday.
Speaking frankly-
these steps are slow
uneasily laughing behind,

but I learned the attributes of your cool:
wear a blue shirt
wear blue jeans
wear a blue belt
put on blue shoes
wear a black jacket
ride your bike to work
brush your teeth really, really white
comb your hair wide

Still ambiguity is sullen, abstract
and personal-
maybe too personal
like a green-bean sliver
whose clumsiness can’t hide
behind autumn suns.

“Wait till my friends see you…”

The wait of your statement!
Just heavy enough and lending to the
Weight
Pressing against the supple body
of your naivety that holds the hand
which has it submerged-
wide eye-ed beneath
and eager to learn.

I’ll teach you…because I am told to.
It is my obligation. A duty
imposed- a baptism, whose
rite is held publicly in
the same wishing well,
fountain…

Listen to the pennies whispering,
