The Poet Jared

I was born in Bridgeport Connecticut in 1954. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and witnessed a profound time of social upheaval and events that would shape this country for the next hundred years. I started writing poetry as a senior in high school in 1971, and was encouraged by a husband and wife who were both professional writers to develop a unique style of writing that is inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Sadly much of my earlier work was lost in an abandoned storage locker in Los Angeles sometime in 1975. Many years later, I regained my voice after a traumatic personal relationship. Since then I have vowed to myself that my voice will be heard, my poems will be written and hopefully I will be known as an American poet. The inspiration for my poetry come from almost everything from the very mundane to serious introspection as I watch the world pass before my eyes like an endless parade of wonder and amusement. I now reside in Gilbert Arizona and pay my bills as a commercial electrician and live with my girlfriend, our three cats and two dogs.

::: The World’s Fattest Man is Missing :::

I know this to be true
I read it from
a supermarket tabloid last night
and you know they wouldn’t lie
about something so grave
so serious
and so important
those supermarket tabloids
always report the news
truthfully and fair

and I wondered
where would he go??
I read the article
they say
he weighed 4200 pounds
surely someone
must have seen
something
surely an understatement
about someone
so large

did he
go on a diet
when no-one was looking
and slip away
into a crowd
of thin people
unnoticed??

surely he could not drive away
a man as big
as a pick-up truck
could not
no pick-up truck made
could pick him up
if it could
it would make
one hell of a commercial
the world’s heaviest duty
pick-up truck
for the world’s
heaviest man

did he go by train?
in his own boxcar
surely a trained eye
would have seen
the caboose
board the train

did he go by boat
surely a barge
he would need
or maybe he just
swam away
a tugboat
taking him out to sea
till the trade winds
carried him away

there was nothing
on the news
on Tv or radio
he is simply gone
surely he must be found
for the world
with out the
world’s
fattest man
must somehow
now be thinner
and may
lose its balance
we may go off our orbit
and collide with the sun

this afternoon
as the
sun sets
and the writers
of supermarket tabloids
throw darts
at a world map of reality
we mourn
the loss
of the word’s fattest man whereabouts
unknown
