::: Why didn't you tell me :::

Why didn't you tell me?

why didn't you tell me..?
that the sprinkler
will make a rainbow
that appears, fades, and reappears
that life slips away
incandescent
that loneliness is defined
in the company of others
that pro-choice
means being cornered
and politics is a game
of human ping-pong

why didn't you tell me..?
that vanity is an ice-princess
that can swallow you whole
in sharp icicles and pasty white
and tequila will solve
existential problems
that ocean waves
are really a hip-hop
gravitation of the moon
and that one lover
will fade into others
after the memory shadows
have escaped a tormented moment

why didn't you tell me..?
that Plath is my soul-sister
that being successful
is learning to suffer rejection
that your life could be a millisecond
--the rainbow in the sprinkler-
of ambiguous beauty
perceived
and death everlasting.

Why didn't you tell me..?
