::: A Death Plea :::

My zombie corpse walked among the living
For over two months.
The metallic taste of blood lingered on my breath
And my vacant, lifeless eyes could no longer see.
But they were unaware of my death.

I did not sleep.
I lay awake night after night, staring at some point
Which I could not comprehend.
I was mute, my tongue too big for my mouth
So many things I wanted to say
But I just screamed, a long, silent scream
That could not be heard
And still, they were unaware of my death.

I walked the streets among them every day,
Climbing into my borrowed skin and mask.
When a passerby smiled, my mind said
”Smile back!”
So I smiled while the blood slowly trickled
Out of my body, through invisible openings
Which they did not see.
Someone spoke to me with unintelligible words
But I answered with words of my own I could not understand.
So, they were unaware of my death,
As I wanted them to be.

You did not see me either.
You did not know that your daughter had left you,
And when I returned to you,
You did not know that I had changed forever.
I wanted you to hear my cries!
I wanted you to look into my pleading eyes
And hear the words which I could not say.
But you too mama, were unaware of my death.
