::: Cresendo :::

So faint, so familiar
The subtle notes that fall and break
Like the plucking of strings
Or wait - more like the gentle rattle of a tambourine
Rising and falling
Like your breath as you sleep

Then urgency grows
As the notes clatter down
Rattling the skylight
As if trying to wake you
But like me, you love to listen

To the crescendo
Of an unwritten melody
That could lull or terrify
As the timpani join in, loud
Bouncing off our chests
As they chase the strobe flash
Turning notes into shadows on the wall

But there are no timpani today
Only the plucking of silken strings
A melody that swells and retreats
Quiet, then loud, then quiet again,
Such soft rhythm that cradles me back to sleep
On this lovely spring morning
As I drift on the sound of sweet melody
