::: Pigeons on the Rooftop For Kantor :::

Oh Wyeth you portrait
Of death a ship’s captain:

A man in loose pants, loose shirt, bow
Between his legless soul
Tries to reach a railing
On a ramp
But never reaches
The dirty sunlight outside
Grand Central’s brass

A wooden attempt
Sits crouched head bowed
With reading glasses
Holding wads of bloody gauze
Have never never sleep

A trying
At walking trying to walk
Tall, broad, black man in cinders,
7 black plastic crates of milk
On a two wheeled hand truck

At the 90+ degree age
The stone grey suit
Voiceless gestures
To a single Kleenex ballerina
Feverously agitated again
Between extended puppet
Fingers

An Indian man at a crosswalk
Brown uniform
His skin waiting for a light
To change his whole life
In a cardboard box for
Someone else uptown,
An orange sticker
And a NY Post repeating,
“20 more days, this f*cking light,
20 more days, this f*cking light,”

F*cking light in
A spring dress stands
In a Madison Avenue
Window theatre as
The proudest of
DeKooning’s women nervous
Smiles within the nervous
Light striking the wanted ad:

Actress, 99 years old for
ONE WOMAN PLAY “Remain Andrew”
Must be able to wait
On stage
