::: Awakening from Lucidity :::

Life. Seconds, minutes, hours, days... Sometimes the agony of this world gathers in my gut and I carry its weight upon my back. In those moments I allow my soul to slouch down to the concrete and contemplate the ease of emptiness.

In those moments I think of all who have gone beyond this world into the darkness of the unknown... and I yearn to join them. But, time is an illusion I am not prepared to die for. So what am I prepared to live for?

They tell me Love is all there is - a great light shimmering in the vast beyond, the secret, the answer to all my cares. Love? What has love given me but pain, longing, desire? No, it is the Emptiness I seek. The perfect balance between this thought and the next.

Bitter tears form somewhere deep in my heart. I deny them once again and maintain the stony facade of success. Yes, I am beautiful. Yes, I am powerful. And what have I sacrificed to attain these fleeting products of material accomplishment?

I long to sacrifice it all. To give up, to give in, and return to the womb, nestled in the darkness and comfort of ignorance. Oh wisdom, had thou not knocked upon my door bearing such lovely gifts, I should never have opened unto you. Yet now, I have seen the ugliness at the core of your offerings, and it is too late to return them to the source. I stand alone, bearing the fruits of humankind’s labor upon this earth, some stinking of decay and some yet unripe.

I would relinquish all I have gained and return to my slumber, were it not for the flower blooming from the crevice in the sidewalk. Sometimes life reveals to me her beauty unveiled, and in those moments I am jolted back into the awareness of God.
