Doug Eberle

Doug Eberle, born in 1983, hails from Queens, NY.  When not writing, he operates Green Office Systems, an eco-friendly office furniture company in Brooklyn.  In the future, he plans on diving more deeply into urban landscapes, describing and memorizing the diversity in the people and how they blend with their unnatural surroundings, sharing everything he gathers with the New York City community and bringing it all together into one big poetic pop.

::: Harlem :::

Never visited Harlem before,
but I’m here now, so
I guess I’ll draw it –
Redbrick everywhere and
more hills than I imagined
The college looks like
an old mansion
and I’m guessing
it’s an old mansion –
Very quiet
Very mysterious
It takes longer to get
downtown
than it takes to get up here
The sky feels like eternity
with no way out (or one way)
Someone somewhere
must be hallucinating
Bars on all the windows
and no Beverly Hills-ish bars
no Threatening bars like keep out,
no trespassing, like so many
flies have gathered here and
now I know why
Madison Avenuians
have no big bites –
Harlem looks old
What a shame
