::: Still In Love With Gilligan's Island Actor-Busted For Marijuana Possession-Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) :::
Dawn Wells ( Mary Ann from the old boob-tube series Gilligan’s Island ) was arrested a few months ago for erratic driving and having 4 half-smoked joints in her car.
I was awed by her still beautiful face ( at 69! ) shown in the news article.
Seeing Ms. Well’s picture took me back to the mid-sixties when as a young teenager I used to watch this classically silly TV show.
Like all boys my age I was in love with Mary Ann. She made my hormones pump so hard my face would break out while watching the show. And I would have to watch her with my jacket over my crotch to avoid any embarrassing comments from my family like” OMG...look at Joe’s pants!”
I used to whistle the Gilligan's Island theme song tune everywhere - te tweet tweet tweet te tweet tweet tweet te tweet tweet tweet tweet twee... in school, hanging out with my buddies - laying in bed at night stroking...er uh... thinking about Mary Ann.
I also went back and let my thoughts drift back to the other characters of that show. Gilligan ( Bob Denver) was so good at sounding and looking stupid I really think he might have been stoned during the filming of many of those episodes. Skipper (Allan Hale) seemed kind of drunk most shows but was a hilarious "Oliver Hardy" to Gilligan’s "Stan Laurel."
I loved it when he would constantly hit Gilligan over the head with his hat.
It was a bit confusing to me though why those two ( Skipper and Gilligan ) weren’t allowed to show any sexual interest in the “hot hot” babes they had on that show with Ginger, Mary Ann and a very attractive 65 year old Mrs. Howell.
It just didn’t seem normal and each year I more and more wondered if the Skipper and Gilligan weren’t..uh, well you know.
Sometimes when Skipper would ask Gilligan if he wanted to do something away from camp and alone with him like hunting for coconuts he’d have that creepy horny molester smile look on his face and Gilligan would look back at him in disgust and make up excuse after excuse...”Sorry Skipper, Mrs. Howell wants me to help her find one of her hats.”
Ginger always had that lascivious Las Vegas lounge look which was a little too sexually over-my-head at the time versus Mary Ann’s more innocent high school cheerleader look.
Thurston Howell the Third and his over-the-top arrogant manner and Mr. Magoo voice was always a delight to see and hear.
Mrs. Howell ( Lovey ) was wonderfully and convincingly ditzy yet also one of the most attractive 65 year old I had ever seen. I was honestly attracted to this women even at 14 and 15 years old !
Now that I am closing in on her Gilligan's Island TV show age in real life..she looks even better in those old photos. Who was that actress? She must have been an absolute goddess in her younger days.
The professor looked very depressed to me every time he made an appearance. In fact, even though I am sure that cast had some good times filming that show...I can’t help think that most of them might have been absolutely humiliated doing those junior high level scripts week after week after week.
They must have sensed that their roles appeared to be desperate, over-the-hill-has-been ones that were sure to ruin their future chances for more serious castings. They were so widely known and typecast as the caricatured clueless characters of this show for too long I am afraid. And I sure don’t recall any of them going on to better things.
Maybe they were all stoned on most of that show's episodes just to get through those ridiculously juvenile scripts!
But, I look back fondly when I recall watching Gilligan's Island. The dialogue didn’t matter. One got to see someone stupider sounding and looking than themselves and women so attractive they made your manhood ache. What more could one ask from a TV show.
Hope my life-long crush Mary Ann ( Dawn Wells ) is doing okay after her marijuana bust. And MAN, how good could a 69 year old look ??? Mary Ann...you still make my hormones go wild ... what's left of them.
