ps3

::: Guess What? - We got our PS3 !!! :::

On November 17th I saw people pushing the limit, trying to get to the next level of SONY… The “PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3)”.If you watched the news you probably heard everything under the sun about the PS3, good and bad. Forget about that for now because this is our view on the PS3! Here at FREESTYLEVISION we got a 60GB model of the PS3 which retails at 599.99. It includes multi memory card support slots, one wireless six axis control, and WiFi for wireless internet connections and of course a 60GB hard disk drive which is easily upgradeable (so, if you did get the 20GB version you can easily upgrade the hard drive). If you do have a high speed internet connection I suggest you connect to the Playstation store and download the free demo of “Motostorm”. This is a game that gives you a taste of the PS3's graphical power. Some people say “$600, $500 damn that's a lot”...Why? A lot of people say I'm not paying $600 dollars for that but EBAY has proven people will pay 2 times that or more. The real reason for the price… “Blu-ray!” which is a new disc format for example a normal DVD disc can hold up to 7 to 9 gigs of data where a Blu-ray disc can hold up to 25 to 50gigs (double layered) which means better sound and picture quality and a whole bunch of extra features. So at this point you're most likely saying ok cool but that's an arm and leg I don't have to spare well consider this if you want a “Blu-ray” movie player your going to pay a $1000.00 and up so $600 or $500 for 60GB or 20GB PS3 is not bad at all. So know you're most likely saying ok but why should I buy my whole DVD collection over again well....You don't because “Blu-ray” players still support the good old DVD format so you will not have to start your collection all over. The interface for the PS3 is very similar to the PSP menu which makes navigation simple and clean. The system has 4 USB ports and three memory card slot readers (SD, FLASH, etc) that can be used to add video files and pictures to your PS3. The PS3's slideshow for pictures is one of the little touches to show off that “The little things do matter”. As with all new system launches the first strings of games usually lackluster or tend to be the same stuff you've already played. Most new launches are the same system to system but; it's a good thing that a gem does exist amongst the launch titles. The PS3 also has a web browser, it's nothing special right now but, knowing SONY we will see more expanded features thru PS3 online updates. The PS3 can also support a mouse and keyboard. First off if you do plan on buying a PS3 and not flipping that “mug” on eBay you'll need some software. My #1 pick is “Resistance fall of man”. Resistance is a first person shooter that's set in an alternate universe where World War II never happened, where mankind is threatened by a new powerful enemy. I won't ruin the plot but, after your first encounter with the enemy things take a surprising turn. The online play for this game is wonderful with 40 player matches and an easy to use interface so finding somebody to light up online is not that hard. The one thing that makes Resistance stands out from the first person shooter crowd it's the arsenal from your standard machine gun to a weapon that shoots through solid objects and becomes stronger by passing through more objects. If you are lucky enough to own a PS3, BUY this game right now. THE FINAL VERDICT… The PS3 is a nice piece of hardware to own but to give a final verdict right now would be much too early example we are just now getting to see great graphics for the 360 a year later and we won't be getting a true view on the console war between Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft until next year but with the software coming out in the near future all gamers will have something to rejoice about. Second Thought... F#$* that we like what we have seen so far and think that the PS3 has great potential to grow!

Stay tuned to FREESTYLVISION for more PS3 game reviews.
