::: Great Teacher Onizuka :::

By ~ Apollo

Haahah wowww where to start with this one. I honestly don't know. It kills me that this show is over. After 43 episodes I was left wanting another 200. When this show started my feelings were not nearly as strong about this show. It was funny at parts but after 2 or 3 episodes I was not sure this was going to be as good as I had heard. I was dead wrong. After about 20 episodes I found myself about to die of laughter every 2 minutes. This show is great and cannot be missed by any anime fan.

Eikichi Onizuka is a 22 year old ex gang member who is trying to go legit. By legit,I mean he a has set a goal to become the greatest teacher ever. The only problem is this guy is a freakin idiot(not really an idiot) and a lot of times is found majorly lacking in academic prowess and/or common sense. This is part of the reason he is so hilarious. He makes school so much fun because he is so unorthodox in his methods. Ya he is totally a typical perverted and thrill seeking guy, but he is honest about it and that is a big part of his charm. When Onizuka comes to school to start his first full time teaching job, he is given the worst class in the history of the school. The class is notorious for driving teachers insane and they do their best to unsettle Onizuka. Unlike other teachers, Onizuka does not back down and decides to get to the root of the problem and win over each kid in his class one after another. Once he begins to do this, we see a student teacher bond that is seldom occurs in this day and age is truly something special. Onizuka is on a mission to make school fun for the children and to teach them lessons that are more important than anything that they can learn inside the classroom.

The show is not an HD anime but it is not bad at all. A lot of the actions and exploits of Onizuka are downright physically impossible. The art style is perfect for portraying these actions. There are plenty of hilarious moments that occur and the series' illustrations are very suitable to this kind of story. Not much else to say about the visuals because there is really nothing wrong.

I loved this show. It took me a little bit to warm up to it, but like a nervous kid who is going to his first birthday party, when it was over I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay in the little world the Eikichi Onizuka and his students lived in. It was truly a magical experience. The only real criticism that I have of this show is that it took a few episodes for me to understand the direction and message of this show. In the end however, I totally got it so no harm no foul. I loved. You will love it. Go and watch it. This is one of the top 3 animes that I have watched so far.
