Samuel L. Jackson in Anime? Maybe there is hope for this world after all! This funky and violent mix storytelling really succeeded and I think in some ways it broke new ground. It will appeal to a lot of people who never really took interest in cartoons before and is more enjoyable to a mainstream audience of not just anime fans, but your average person …somewhat. We have the amazing beats by RZA and the legendary voice of Samuel L. Jackson to thank for that.

Our hero is know simply as Afro. In Afro’s world, countless warriors vie for the Number 1 headband. This signals that you are the number one warrior in the world and is said to give you the powers of a god. Afro’s father used to be number one, but was defeated by the eccentric gunslinger Justice (voiced by Ron Perlman). After watching Justice brutally kill his father, Afro dedicates his life to avenging his slain father and becoming the world’s greatest fighter. To do this Afro must obtain the Number 2 headband. Only the one who wears the Number 2 headband can challenge Number 1. Only problem is, anyone and everyone can challenge Number 2...

Afro Samurai has a very sleek and sexy look to it that engages you from the very beginning. You can’t help but love it. It’s very graphic and very detailed, which is exactly what you want from a show like this. The art is very well done and brings our badass hero to life. The sounds are done by RZA and I must say, these tracks are killer. Enough said.

Afro Samurai is a kick ass ride that bares some resemblance to Samurai Champloo but goes in its own direction. This has mature all over it as there is excessive gore and some drug an sexual content. It’s for a mature crowd, but it sure doesn’t disappoint.

Grade: B+
