::: J. Holiday - Back of My Lac :::

Well, well, well, one of the most anticipated new artists, J. Holiday has arrived with his CD "Back of My Lac" and I must say it's full of surprises. First off, who ever bought the CD knows the only reason they did is just to hear "Bed" over and over again. At least that's why I originally bought it. If you are an avid "BET 106 & Park" fan, you'll remember Chris Brown's interview and his mentioning of the song "Bed". "Bed" was actually given to Chris Brown however at the last minute, the song was given to J. Holiday instead. Now, as talented as cutie Chris Brown is, I totally can't see him talking about anything that has to do with a bed! I must admit that J. Holiday killed the song and even Chris Brown gave him props for it when he was on "106 & Park". There are a few smooth tracks on this album and surprisingly has no featured artists, you get 100% J. Holiday. I had originally bought the album thinking he was gonna' be the typical new smooth R&B crooner hittin' the scene but as usual, I was wrong. Instead J. Holiday is more than that: he's a smooth, mellow artist with a little bit of a thug in him; I guess the tattoo on his throat should have given it away. Aside from "Bed" being the best track on the Back of My Lac album, J. Holiday has a few more notable mentions such as "Suffocate" which is a low-key track that you would probably want to play if you just had a serious break up. This of course is one of the barrage of "please come back to me" songs. "Fatal" is a cool upbeat song that has a pretty catchy hook and is one of the better songs on the album. "Pimp in Me" is a tight song, it talks about how he's ready to hang up his "pimp cane" and ready to settle down. What girl can deny a dude when they spit this hook, "Girl the pimp in me just died when I look into your eyes"? Though there are some pretty decent songs on the album, there are some that just make you want to say, "WTF?" J. Holiday has a song called "Laa Laa" and in it he instructs his girl to "Na shawty roll it roll it roll it, make sure you close it close it close it, imam show you how to hold it hold it hold it, hey now puff puff give that shit back to your nig*a". If that isn't some mess I dunno what is. How did he get away with recording an instructional blunt rollin'/smokin' song?

There are two reasons to buy the Back of My Lac album:

  • To play the song "Bed" when you getting ready to spend the night in someone else's bed. ya dig?
  • Just to hear how funny "Laa Laa" is because old boy was singing the mess out of that hook.
